Oriented to face Nulu’s Market Street, the 5000-square-foot structure will include two bars: one in the front and a speak easy-inspired bar in the back aptly dubbed “Afterwards.” A tree-filled double-height volume will define the front entry from Market Street.
The single-story, tile-clad volume is “the hearth” and will house a double-loaded kitchen serving both the front and back. To honor the community garden that used to occupy the open lot, a green-roof herb garden will perches above the hearth.
Located outside Rabbit Hole Distillery’s main facility, the restaurant/bar will connect to it through a long outdoor courtyard. Metal screening used on the exterior will complement the distillery’s exterior while the form will establish a clear identity for the bar. Exterior materials will also include board-formed concrete, tile and wood. Aamp Studios is designing the interior, including finishes and furnishings.
